      It’s really a mixed bag, but the point is whether or not you get the answer you want, it’s really important to publish the results so other people don’t waste loads of time doing stuff you’ve already done when it doesn’t work. In my job I’ve done a few experiments where we have had good results, and that’s always extra rewarding, but often its a long long road of trial and error, and takes some perseverance!

      If you just look at the results, yeah. We’ve worked out a new way to take pictures through an optical fibre, and we managed to actually take some pictures, so that’s pretty cool. There were a lot of ways that it didn’t work before it did work, though. That’s why you have to keep trying until you get there.

      there have been some positive results from my work. i have a few publications and i also have two patents. none oft the publications are groundbreaking but it is a small contribution to the respective fields and the patents are not that exciting but it protects the idea and work i have done.
