Nitrogen triiodide is an explosive molecule made of one nitrogen atom and three iodine atoms. It’s pretty cool because when it explodes it makes a huge bang and a big cloud of purple iodine smoke, and it’s very very cool because it’s so unstable: to make it explode, you just have to very gently tap it, or stomp hard on the floor next to it, or puff air really hard at it, or let a single particle of alpha radiation hit it. It’s great!
