When we run out of fossil fuels like coal, if we do not have a reserve or a back up plan, then we might have to sit in darkness. It is a scary thing to imagine. Imagine a world where there is no electricity no transport because we have run out of fuel to burn. For me, renewable energy is not only a back up plan but also a future for lasting electricity where future generations do not have to worry about fuel sources, It also helps to keep our environment to be pollution free

The Government of the day is elected by the people to decide how things should work for citizens. The Civil Service is responsible for actually making those things happen and trying to get them to happen in the best way possible – so they don’t cost too much and good ideas don’t have unintended consequences. The work I do is all about this – using maths and modelling to try to understand how processes can be as efficient as possible and to try to make sure we understand the wider implications of changing things. As an example, if you want to go on holiday and you need a new passport, you want to be able to make sure you can get one in time – the work my team do helps make sure there are enough people to issue passports and that they can do their work as efficiently as possible. Equally, if you were coming to the UK to travel, study, work, or seek protection, you’d want to know that your application would be handled as quickly and fairly as possible, within the rules set by the Government – we help to try to make that happen.
