• Question: do you get to do boring experiments?

      experiments do get boring if you have to keep repeating them. in my job when you design and make a diagnostic test then is very important to show it can be repeated and give the same result. this is because a doctors will use it to find out what wrong with their patients. if the test only works sometimes then its not very helpful as it would take longer to treat them.

      In February I spent a whole week in a lab by myself with the lights off pressing buttons in a computer to move a fibre around while I took measurements. A week, in the dark, by myself.

      Sometimes you have to repeat an experiment so many times it can absolutely suck the life out of you. On those occasions, I play my favourite music and sing along!
