Depends on what you mean by danger. I’ve worked with lasers that could blind me and with chemicals that could poison me or give me cancer or give any future children I might have birth defects and with pieces of machinery that could crush my fingers or hand badly enough that the doctors wouldn’t be able to fix it, but I’ve never done any of that without knowing that it was a possibility or without doing things to make sure that the danger is as small as it can be. I think I’ve been put in more danger by crossing the road or getting on a plane, to be honest.

Not really. For all experiments we have to do a risk assessment to ensure we are safely perform our experiments. Health and safety is extremely important companies and universities adhere to the policies. There is a government body called the Health and Safety Executive who oversee everything in the UK. They check there are systems and processes in place to protect employees. Also, when something goes wrong they have the power to close down a site.
