      By humans or by evolution?

      By humans, I think people noticed that if they didn’t engage in certain activities they didn’t have babies, and if they did then they might have babies, and then they got interested in why, so they made up loads of silly ideas, and then science came along to explain why each of the ideas was silly until we ended up with the explanation we have now.
      .
      How evolution got from bacteria splitting into two to sexual reproduction is a mystery to me.

      The reproductive system has been studied for a few hundred years by cutting up humans and animals.
