It really depends on the subject you want to study! Even subjects within subjects (for example some people don’t just want to study chemistry, they may want to study medicinal chemistry). The best thing is to get loads and loads of prospectuses at your Higher Education open days, and spend a weekend reading them. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can narrow it down. Then you need to go to visit those Universities during their open days because each one has a different vibe, and it’s important that you feel ‘at home’ at Uni – this encompasses lots of other things like the location, the extra-curricular clubs that Uni offers and the community you’re in.
That all depends on you. Choosing a university is a difficult thing to do, and it’s important that you do your research. Most universities will have decent science departments and you’ll learn a lot wherever you go, so I think the best recommendation I can make is to go and see them for yourself if you can, especially at open days, but even if you can’t make those you can see what the city is like and have a wander round the campus. Remember that you’re choosing where you’re going to live for the next three or four years: better to be somewhere you actually like being.
